MR SIGLEY'S REPLY.
(To the Editor of the Times.)
Sir,—ln reply to Mr Crawford's letter in tho Times issue of Saturday, I • would like to point out that the list of names given of residents in Clutha (who signed a round-robin at the request of a canvasser, Mr Thomson) is \ery ancient, being some three years old, hence oi tittle value in the lii;iu of to-day. The letters and the statement by the Preshytery I submitted are recent, and are the deliberate opinions of residents now living on the spot, and hence are of greater vgiue than thirty-one signatures to a round, robin obtained three years ago. I would call atienlion to Air Crawford’s closing assertion (which is incorrect, and therefore misleading) that the thirty-one names given “constitutes nearly all the business people of the town of Balclutlia,” as at the very time the round robin was signed by the thirty-one individuals, the business persons and tradesmen in Balclut'ia numbered one hundred and three a somewhat remarkable statement on the part of Mr Crawford. The following is a list-, care-’illy prepared, of the then traders in tli -j town
—And I leave it to my readers to judge of the value of Mr Crawford’s as well as that of tiic “ thirty-one residents.”—l am, etc., J, K. SIC LEY.
