Mrs Mackechnie, widow of tho lato Mr Edmund Mackechnie, died this morning. Carrying out the wishes of her husband, she bequeaths a valuablo library to tho City Council, X2OOO to the Auckland Inatitute to purchaso scientific works, and XSOO for ths gonoral purposes of the Institute ; also ,£2500 for tho erection of an Art Gallery for tho Auckland Society of Arts.
