m, T r . Thames, last night. The Hon. Mr McGowan delivered an address at Tapu last night, and was ac. corded a vote of thanks and confidence, -before the meeting closed three cheers were given for the member. A settler named Cryer had a marvellous escape. Whilst ploughing in a paddock, and seeing a thunderstorm coming he got on one side of his horse for shelter. He saw a streak of lightning coming, atracted by the sheath"of the plough; It passed between him and the horse, and struck the horse on the hind hocks the skin being bared and singeing the hair up tne leg. It then passed and split four pur.n posts into atoms. In the next paddoox it killed a calf instantaneous!-.-. The calf appeared as if gored to death.
