CRICKET.
Tbo cricket season has got fairly under way at last, and this week a start will be made with both the Thursday and Saturday competitions. To morrow, tho first of tho series of Thursday competition matches will bo played at To Hapara, when Kaiti-City meets AVest End.
The following players will represent Kaiti-City:—Stringer,'D. Porter (captain), Macdonald, AVhite. Griffiths, Priestly (2 , Lewis, Loomb, AVitty, und Shillabecr. Emergencies: Colbourno, R. Porter, and C. Adair. A bus will loave the Masonic Hotel corner at 1.45 p.m. to convey players to the ground. On Saturday afternoon next County and United meet at To Hapara in the first match of the Saturday competitions. A match, Married v. Single, lies been arranged, under tho auspices of tho Poverty Bay Cricket Association, to bo played'at To Hapara on Monday next. It is intended to make it an ail-da.v match, starting at 11 a.m. Messrs AV. J. Barlow and 11. Rowlands have been appointed to sclent the benedicts' team, and Messrs 11. E. llill and J. V. Macdonald to muster eleven bachelois.
The bat presented by Mr -Pettie, vicepresident of the United Club, for the highest batting average in club matches last season, was yesterday despatched to AVanganui to Mr A. Howartb, the winner of the trophy.
