ATTACK WARDERS WITH

SHOVELS

Four long-sentence prisoners recently drafted from other gaols to the local gaol, while engaged on road work, within half a mile of the gaol, suddenly attacked Warders Lodge and Morgan this afternoon, with shovels and other tools. The prisoners succeeded in overpowering the warders and in making their escape. , , They secured the rifles, but not ammunition. . Tlie prisoners must have separated, as one of them was two hours later seen on the terrace overlooking the racecourse. • , Up to eleven to-night, the police had not succeeded in making a capture, hut it is almost impossible, from the nature of tho country, for the prisoners to make good their escape.
