MAN TRIES TO KILL lIIS WIFE,
ATTEMPTS SUICIDE,

A tragic occurrence took plaee at Marton tins morning when a woll-kuowa saddler named Joseph Temperley made a determined attempt to murder Ids wife and afterwards attempted suicide. At about 5 o’clock he shot his wifo while in a sound sleep, the bullet penetrating tho top portion of iter noso. Finding the bullet not etloclive ho thereupon attempted to cut her throat with a razor, but sho managed to esetipo. A nasty cut was indicted on her neck. She rushed across to a neighbor’s. The tragedy was reported to the police, who, on arriving on the seono, found Temperley had attempted to cutins own tiiroat. On each sido ol his throat two deep wounds had boon indicted. His condition is critical, and the bullet wound on Mrs Tomporloy’s face is serious, hut tho cut on the neck is not dungorous. Teinpcrloy says he was a lunatic at tho time of tlie crime, hut now admits himself to bo sano. Financial troubles are alleged to he tho cause, and Temperley is said to have been more dejected than usual.
