The Department of Agriculture has received the following cable from the AgentGeneral, dated the Ist inst.: —“ Mutton market firm and speculative. The quantity of mutton going into consumption at present is small. The average price today for Canterbury is 4Jd, other North Island 4Jd. Lamb market weak. There is a dull sale for all lambs. The stocks of lamb on hand are light and firmly held in few hands. The average price to day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is sjd; other than Canterbury 5Jd. The Beef market is dull ; New Zealand hinds 4;)d, fores Id. The butter market is steady; Danish litis, Canadian 102 s. The cheese market is firm. The price to-day is 55s per cwt. Tne hemp market is depressed. Keports from Manila indicate that heavy shipments are expected. The > average price of good, fair Wellington : grade on spot to day is Too, November to January shipnaefits £OO. The industries and Coinmeiee Department are advised by cable from the AgentGeneral that importations of River Plate j into the United Kingdom during the j month of October were as followsi Mutton 211,120 carcases, of which 146,920 ; carcases were landed at Liverpool, 50,526 j at London, and 13,671 a: Southampton;; iamb. 747 carcases landed at London. The : average prices realised for these shipments j were—mutton 4 Vd, lamb old.
