PACIFIC CABLE.
CONGRATULATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydnoy, Nov. 2. Sir Joseph Ward, on behalf of Now Zealand, cabled to Sir John See, congratulating him on the completion of the Pacific cable, “ A great imperial work, tho value of which to our countries can/, not be well estimated.” Sir John See replied in similar terms. Tho Secretary of tho New Zealand Postal Department cabled congratulations to Mr Drake and Sir John See. In a cable, Mr Chamberlain said : “ The establishment of this all red line has become an epoch of history and a lasting benefit to the English-Bpeaking community.” London, Nov. 1. A message despatched from aboard the Anglia at Fiji, announcing the completion of the Pacific cable, was delivered to the King to day at Newmarket, where he was attending the races. OPINION OF THE TIMES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, Nov. 1. The Times considers tho Government ought immediately to construct subsidiary lines, linking the Empire with the Pacific cable. Mr Chamberlaia congratulated Mr Spencer Walpole on the completion of tho task. Sir Sandford Fleming was the recipient of many felicitations.
