COAL FOR WARSHIPS.
By Telegraph—Press Association, Wellington, last night. The trade clone by New Zealand in supplying coal for the British squadron on the China station is steadily increasing, Mr Binriiam, of the Naval Department, who watches the interests of the Admiralty in the colony, states that the present order amounts to 68,000 tons a year, all of which comes from the Granity mines of the Westport Coal Company, Next year, there will probably be a large increase of the Admiralty order. A regular transport service has been arranged, and probably the Admiralty will ultimately have a proper collier fleet for the service. Steps are being taken to improve the Westport bar with a view of enabling large colliers to clear for China direct as full ships, without as at present having to finish loading at Wellington,
