It is officially announced that Mr Cham berlain, with the King’s and Cabinet’s approval, at tho end of November visits South Africa to examine tho problems and confer with tho different interests respecting the future policy. Ho expects to return to England early in March. Lord Milner cordially approved of the visit. Mrs Chamberlain accompanies him. Lord Onslow conducts the routine business while Mr Chamberlain is away, and Austen Chamberlain will reply to colonial questions asked in tho Houso of Commons.

The Times commenting, says that this new departure will hardly fail to exercise a profound influence on tho futuro devo lopment and consolidation of tho Empire, and hopes it will become a precedent for visiting the chief groups of the Empire year by year. Porsonal investigation of the problems will accelerate progress, brush aside impediments, powerfully promote the growth of Imperial sentiment in ali the colonies, and suggests that Natal deserves tho honor of first welcoming in South Africa.

Tho Daily News regards the undertaking as tho most pregnant mission of Mr Chamberlain's life, and wishes him Godspeed. All the papovs approve of the journey.
