The fortnightly meeting of builders and joiners will be held this evening. Mrs James Morgan, of Ballanee street, has a cottage to let at Whataupoko. Montgomery’s Entertainers appear in Gisborne on the show and race nights, October 28th, 29th, 30th, and 31st. 'The West End Cricket Club open the season this afternoon on tho Te Haparu < ground. A brake will leave the Masonic j ijornor at p.vn.
Contributions of clothing will ba thankfully received ut the Old Men’s Horae. The opening of the Bowling Green will take place this afternoon, and should attract u large gathering. The Zealandia Quadrille Assembly hold a plain and fancy dress dance in the Academy of Music this evening. This will be the last dance of the season. A reward is offered for the conviction of the scamp who damaged a new seat which had just been placed in the Recreation Ground.
The attention of our Coastal readers is directed to the advertisement and inset in regard to Mr W. D. Lysnar’s lectures against prohibition, to be held on Tuesday and following evenings. On Saturday next Messrs Wyllie and Mason will sell by auction Sections 22 and of, Patutahi, being about 47 acres. There should be keen competition for these sections.
Messrs Sheridan and Co. have removed from their offices in Gladstone road to those recently in the occupation of Mr T. Coleman, in Lowe street, next to Wyllie and Mason’s.
Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. hold their stock sale at Waerenga-a hika yards to day. The firm’s entries include a number of first-class springing cows and heifers, which should be keenly competed for.
At the meeting of the Hospital Trustees last evening, L>r Morrison was appointed Non-Resident Surgeon. Four applications were received for the position. We congratulate Dr Morrison on his appointment. A report of tho meeting is held over.
The Treasurer of the Gisborne Hospital acknowledges with thanks receipt from Mr W. H. Ellerbeck of £5 7s fid, being net proceeds of the performance of tho cantata 11 The Moabitess,” in the Theatre Royal, in aid of tho Hospital funds.
Tho team to play for Taruheru Freezing Works in the football match against tho Gisborne Freezing Works, on Saturday next, will be selected from the following : —Pilcher, Ball, Campbell, Sharp, Ferguson, Kininmont, Osborne, Sharp, Hall, Symons, Franklin, Henderson, Duncan, Dowers, Hagan, Dastable, Rice, Young, Richie, Mason, Dears, Oxenham, Spence, Thomas, G. Griffin, Malleay, Cuncen, Burnett, Tcnson, Dandie, Foss, Romeo, Charles Goldie, Reid, Williamson, Jameson, Courtayno.
