Beira, for its size, is the most eosiuopolitan place in the world. It is a small meeting-ground of the nations. A recent census “showed that the town contains 0840 Portuguese, 323 English, 182 Greeks, 106 Chinese, 88 Austrians, 66 French, 62 Italians, 29 Arabs, 20 Germans, 20 E"vptians, and smaller contingents of Tui : Us, Americans, Russians, Swiss, Dutch, Belgians, Japanese, Roumanians, Spanish, Brazilians, Swedes, Norwegians, and Abyssinians. The confusion of tongues 1 must be reminiscent of the Tower of Babel.
