PRICES INCREASING. FACTORIES TO CLOSE DOWN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright New York, Oct. 13. Many public men in America are ndvc eating the national ownership of mines. Restaurant prices have increased 24 per cent., consequent oil the scarcity of coal. Scores ol factories announce that they intend to close down at an early elate. SCARCITY OF FUEL. By Telegraph -Press Association—Copyrigh New York, Oct. 14. Owing to thr scarcity of fuel tho wooden sidewalks and streets paved with blocks in Chicago are being raised and used for firing. Although it is reported that Mr P. Morgan had induced tho coal-owners to settle the strike by advancing the minors wages, leaving over other questions in dispute, the future settlement is more generally believed. Mr Morgan declined to intervene since" his syndicate is not directly concerned in the struggle. Ottawa, Oct. 14. The Canadian Municipalities have appealed to the Welsh and Scotch mino owners, asking them to give the Canadian orders for coal a preference over tho American orders.
