The sire of Young Herd Laddie is Herd Laddie (imported), bred oy John Templeton, St. Quivox, Ayrshire; sire Jemrnie Gray, dam Sally, 'ey Baronet, by Newstead, grand-dam, Jess, by Prince of Wales. Herd Laddie gained first as champion at Gathalia in 18UU, first and champion and the Doherty Challenge Cup at the same show in 181)1, and first and champion prizes at Tatura the same year. Herd Laddie was imported from Scotland by Air PI. Kay, and was afterwards sold to Air D. Archibald for 750 guineas.
