Messrs Williams and Kettle, Limited’ report hold their usual stock sale at thoir Matawbero yards on Wednesday. There was a large attondanco. Sheep.—Our yarding comprised 800 shoep, which were all sold under tho hammer at fair prices; 103 old ewes with lambs made 12s. Hoggets made from 8s to 9s. Fat wethers 14s od. For a nice lino of fat owes, wo got Ils lid. The only lot passed was a very prime lino of shorn fat ewes, for which 10s 6d was offered.
Cattle.—Tho yarding in cattle • was a very largo one, principally in dairy stock. We offorod some splendid lines, but for some unaccountable reason prices wore considerably lower than have boon ruling at tho last two sales. Springing heifers made from £5 to £8 10s. Cows made up to £B, whilst any cows not in the best of condition made as low as £4 to £5. Young stock wero in good demand, and made £4 for 20 month steers up to £6 for threo-year-old stores. Pigs.—Wo bad a |largor offering than usual, and as a proof that this industry is a growing one we quitted every offering at considerable increuso on provious prices. Young pigs made from 12s to 15s, Sows made up to £2, Our next- sale wills he held on the 6th November, it being impossible to hold our usual sale during the show week. Wo are instructed to offer at this sale a very choice herd of dairy cattle, well known throughout tho district, and which will afford an opportunity to dairymen of stocking up with first-class tested cows.
Thomas A. Edison, in reply to queries as to his opinion concerning motor traction aud aerial navigation has written “I believe that within 30 years nearly all railways wiil discard steam locomotives and adopt electric motors; and tllat the elqctric automobile will displace the horse almost entirely. In tho present state of science there are no known fact-s ~y which one could predict any commercial future for aerial navigation.”
