lIOW THE LABOR PARTY ACTED.

Tho censure division was takci at 5 o’clock this morning, when Mr Carruthcs' motion was rejected, after a speech by Mr McGowon, leader of the Labor party, wherein bo justified tho action of tho Attorney-General as in conformity with tho basic principles of trial by jury. Tho result was a foregone conclusion. Tho party voted solid with tho Government. Instead of a large majority being obtainod the Government had a narrow o-scapo from defeat, the majority being only ono. This was carried through the Labor caucus decidiug to vote against tbo motion. Mr ( Gormley’s amendment, which provided that tho functions now exercised by tho Attorney-Genoral should only bo exorcised by tbo Executive Council, was a Government device to capture the country party. It was ruled out of order. Tho party went to pioces whon tho division came.
