FEDERAL FORCES.
PREMATURE TO TALK OF NAVY.
By Telegraph- Press Association—Copyrighl Melbourne, Oct. 2.
Sir William Lync stated that the plan adopted had been to get back to the expenditure before the war, during which it was largely ’increased. In peace, the establishment of the Federal forces would be 29,000 officers and men. The war footing would be 44,000. They must not allow things to drift till the time of trouble came. They would have no objection to the establishment of a navy when the proper time came. The present naval force was a toy force, but it was premature altogether to talk of an Australian navy. He gave assurance that he bad taken precaution against the raising of any semblance of authority for sending men outside the Commonwealth.
