By Tolegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. Tho Avondalo .Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting was continued to-day in cold, bleak weather, with a strong wind and intermittent showers. The attendance was fair. The amount put through the totulisator was .£5633. The results were :
Second Handicap Hurdles, l;j miles.— R. Hannon’s eh g Bellman, aged, 10.3, Quinton, 1; E. J. Sayers’ Cannongute, 10.7, 2 ; E. D. O’Rorke’s Mars, 12.2, 3. Also started : Dingo, 0.9, Winsome 9.3, M okumoko 9.0, Sirdar 9.0. Bellman made tho running right through the piece, and wo i easily by four lengths. Time 3.411, divs. £1 15s and £2 10s.
President’s Handicap, 7 furlongs.—Mrs J. Lermard’s b g Maroon and Gold, 4yrs, 7.4, Sceats, 1 ; J. George’s Maro, 6.5, 2 ; J. Lovett’s Solo, 7.10, 3. Also started : Camille 7.0. Maroon and Gold moved up I when entering the straight, and, drawing away, won easily by better than two lengths. Time 1.41, div. £2 6s. Avondale Guinoas, 1 mile.—S. Bradley’s b c Wairiki, 8.10, Guinsford, 1 ; Mrs .1. Bonnard’s Idas, 8.5, 2; 11. Friedlander’s Gladisla, 8.5,3. Also started: Kelburn
8.10, ’ Mary Seaton 8.5. Wairiki was always handy, and, drawing out on entering the straight, ho easily accounted for
tho opposition, winning by about three lengths. Time 1.56, div. £5 ss. Nursery Handicap, 4 furlongs : Mrs J. Lennard’s br f Alba Rose, 7.7, Seeats, 1 ; C. Salisbury’s To Aroba, 7.10, 2 ; F. Stenning’s Agrapus, 7.0, 3. Also started : Cordon Rouge 8.12, Stibbington 8.7, Woodmont 7.7, Bonomiana 7.0. The winnner was in front after a furlong had boen left behind, and won the judge’s verdict by nearly two lengths. Time 5.3£; divs. £3 3s and £2.
I Second Pony Handicap, 5 furlongs :J. Harrison’s b m Cuisine, aged, 7.6, Bird, 1; T. Barr’s First Whisper, 2 ; L. Marshall’s Girton Girl, 3. Also started : Resurgum 7.0, Vynetto 7.0. Won by a nose, after a capital battle up the straight. Time 1.9 3-5 ; div. £7 ss. Plumpton Handicap, one mile. —E. J. Watt’s br m The Shannon, oyrs, 8.13, McNamara, 1 ; E. J. Ruye s The Needle, 7.12, 2 ; J. George’s Durable, 7.5, 3. Also started : St. Olga and Ragabrash. Tho Shannon camo with a rattle when heads were turned up the straight, and cutting down Durable and Ragabrash in fine style, she won easily by a couple of | lengths. Time 1.54 1-5, div. £1 14s. Second Hack Handicap, 6 furlongs.— 0. Salisbury’s br c George, 3yrs, 8.13, Gainsford, 1 ; W. Waltors’ br c Marshal Soult, 3yrs, 8.8, Taylor, 2 ; J. Reginald’s br g Hippowai, syrs, 8.0, Buchanan, 3. Also started : Lingard, 7.4 ; Loeh Fyne, 7.0 ; Hipstone, 7.4 ; Seatonia, 6.12. Won by a short head after a great finish, Hippowai was a couplo of length away. Time 1.23 1-5, divs. £1 16s and ill Bs.
Mount Albert Handicap, 6 furlongs.— W. Lovett’s b g Mechanic, 4yrs, 6.12, Percival, 1 ; J. Chaafe’s St. Olga, syrs, 9.5, Gallagher 2 ; S. Teague’s Romeo, 4yrs, 7.6, Price, 3. Also started : Maroon and Gold 8.5 (including 71b penalty), Landlock 7.7, Cygnet 6.10. Mechanic came with a rattle in the straight, and beat off St. Olga by a clear length. Time 1.22 1-5, divs. £9 14s and 17s.
