There was intense enthusiasm last night on Madame Melba making Her first appearance. Site was greeted by a brilliant audience. There were thousands of people congregated in the streets, and they heartily cheered the Ditto, as' she drove to the Town Hall. After tiie first number, which was a scene from “ Lucia,” a tremendous ovation was given to Madame Melba. The lady was overcome, and fainted.

When she had recovered, she sang “ Home, Sweet Home,” as an encore. The first note of the favorite air was greeted with a terrific outburst of applause. Being interviewed after the concert, Madame Melba said . ”1 am overwhelmed with tiie spontaneous welcome. It lias been a glorious homecoming,”
