AUSTRALIANS v. PLAYERS. By Telegraph—Pross Association—Copyright London, Sept. 17. Australian’s first innings closed for 414. Tho weather is dull and chilly, and the wicket good. Tho attendance is satisfactory. Hill and Noblo continued tho innings. Off tho first ball from Haigh Hill made two, but tho second boat him, and ho retired. Ho was two hours at tho wickets, and showed good hitting powers, obtaining eight fourers, but he was lucky. Thrco for 210. Noblo had a short stay, and was bowled by Rhodes when four. P’our for 214. Duff contributed six, and was caught by Hayward at extra mid-off. Fivo for 233. Hopkins joined Darling, arid free hitting bccume tho order. Darling raised his score to 28, hitting Braund for three fourors in tho same over. He drove die next one to Rhodes at long on, and took a well-judged catch though the sun was in
his oyos. Six for 261. Hopkins was 26 whon Trumblo arrived. Despite several changes in tho bowling they were still together at the luncheon adjournment, the total being 317. Vine and Rhodes conducted tho attack. Hopkins added a singlo, and in the fourth over was bowled by Vine. Ho was 85 minutes at the wickets, and batted well. He hit six fourers. Seven for 324. Armstrong partnered Trumblo, and when six the now eomor gave an apparent chanco of stumping. Braund was wicket keeper in place of Lilley, who hud hurt his finger. Armstrong, whon 20, snicked Rhodes to Abel,
who slipped and missed. In tho next ovor ho was bowled by Vine. Ho gavo an exhibition of freo hitting. Eight for 386. Kolly succumbed to Ithodos without scoring. Nino for 387. Saunders contented himsolf with keeping up tho wicket while Trumblo put on tho runs. With 69 to bis credit ho was bowled by Rhodes. Ho was 100 minutes at the wickets, and gavo a fino display of powerful hitting. Tho Australians’ innings lasted 335 minutes. Tho scores wero :

THE UNITED CLUB.
The annual meeting of the United Cricket Club was hold at tho Masonic Hotol last night. There were present: Messrs Barlow (chairman), J. Gibson, H. C. Rolands, G. F. liretchmor, H. E. Hill (secretary). In tho report presented by the secretary it was recommended that an effort be made to get a pavilion erected on tho ground. The proposal was approved of, members considering that such an effort should be made. The oloction of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Hon. Jamos Carroll; president, Mr W. D. Lysnar ; vice-presidents, Messrs A. W. Rees, R. N. Jones, W. Pettie, C. P. Davios, SV. Cooper, W. F. Cedor. woll; committeo, Messrs G. T. Kretchmer, %V. Gibson, W. J. Barlow, D. Porter, J. Ferris ; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. E. Hill ; delegates, Messrs W. J. Barlow and H. E. Hill. It was rosolved to defer the election of captain, vico-captain, and selection committee to tho next meeting, which is to be held on the 25th inst. It was rosolved on the motion of Mr G. T. Kretchmor, soconded by Mr J. Gibson, to recommend to the Association that each clnb manage its own financial affairs. Another recommendation resolved upon was that the Association should seek affiliation with the Hawke’s Bay Association.
A vote of thunks was accorded to the enorgetio secretary, Mr H. E. Hill. Tho following new members wore elected: Mossrs W. F. Cederwell, H. G. Stringer, S. E. Griffiths, and G. T. Krotchmcr.
The Secretary stated that the batting averages (would be presented at the nest .meeting.
