PACKET LICENSES.

(Per Press Association). Wanganui, last night. At a meeting of the Licensing Committee to-day applications for packet licenses were made by the owners of tho river steamers plying on the Wanganui river. The Committee granted licenses to Parakino, about twenty-eight miles from Wanganui. Hitherto licenses to have effect for a distance of about 120 miles have been granted, but recently it was discovered that licenses had been applying to an area in which the sale of liquor was prohibited by proclamation some years ago.
