By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The House met at 2.30. After tho first reading of a number of Bills, the House resumed in Committee ori the Electoral Bill. A provision was inserted, making it an offeneo for any person to display cards or importune persons to vote for a certain candidate. 5.30 adjournment. The House resumed at 7.30 p.rn, In Committee on the Electoral Bill a proposal to hold the Moari elections on the same day as the elections of Europoan members was lost by 37 to 10. A motion that Maori elections be conducted on the lines of European elections was lost by 33 to 24. A new sub-section was added to provide, if through a mistake of Government, or a Government ollieial, a successful candidate is petitioned against, the latter -hull not lie required to pay legal oxpenses incurred. The offence of “ treating ” electors was limited to polling day. The end of the Bill was reached at 11 p.m., and the new clauses were then considered.
