RIOTOUS PRISONERS.
THEIR EXPLANATION,
((Per Press Association).Christchurch, last night. At Lyttelton to-day the prisoners Foggan and Allandale, who were concerned in tho recent disturbance in goal, wero' brought beforo Mr Beetham, S.M. Accused said that the trouble had boon caused by tho tyrannical and bullying manner in which tho two warders had done their duty. They (prisoners) were so sick and tired of trying to got redress iu prison that they thought the only chance was to make a disturbance and attract tho attention of tho public. The gaoler said that the prisoners had every opportunity of making complaints. They could complain to visiting justices, official visitors, Inspector of Prisons, or the Minister of Justice. The disturbance had arisen because a mate of accused had been punished for broach of discipline. Accused were sentenced to seven days’ solitary confinement in irons, and to forfeit twelve months’ marks.
