FARMERS’ UNION.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Auckland Farmers’ Union the secretary of the Wairoa South Farmers’ Club wrote drawing attention to the alarming spread of anthrax in the Waikato, and asking the support of the Auckland Association in getting the Government to erect a sterilising plant in Auckland. It was intimated that all possible action had already been' taken. The proposed amendment in the Shipping and Seamen’s Bill, in the direction of making it compulsory for vessels trading within the present extended river limits to carry qualified seamen as members of the crew, was discussed. It was pointed out that this would mean increased expense to companies and higher freights for produce. It was decided to protest against the amendment.
