PING-PONG.

TOWN VERSUS COUNTRY,

The secretary of tho town ping-pong team has received the following letter conveying a friendly chalJouge from Mr 11. N. Watson :- “ The country ping-pong team were by no means satisfied with tho results of the late match for several reasons: (I) The notico given to the selectors was too short to get together the best nine mon available. The ladies’ team was probably our best. (2) Owing to the weather many of our team could not attend. Thus wo had only four of our selected nine men, and wo won two matches. In ladies onr first six turned up, and quite held their own. Wo therefore challenge the town team to a return match, to be held in tho Academy of Music at some date to bo arrauged, when the roads are better and we can got our team together. Matches to *be man against man as before, but each match to consist of the best of three games of 30 each. If preferred wo couH play the best of five games of 30 up. In the case of the ladies, however, 1 think three 30’s will bo enough. You might see Rev. JI. W. Williams on the subject, as he'would like us to play for the Cook Memorial. Please let us know as soon as you can, as we arc going to play for our places, and with our team living so far apart it takes a lot of time.” The matter has been taken up by tho Committee of the Cook Memorial, and a selection committee will be appointed to select a town team and arrange the date for the maich.
