STEAMER DAMAGED.
ACCIDENT TO HINEMOA. (Per Press Association). Auckland, last night. A somewhat serious accident occurred to the Government steamer Hinemoa on Monday. The steamer was engaged in surveying the south channel at Kaipara Heads, when she struck on a sanlbank, losing her srernpost and rudder.
The Hiuemoa being in a somewhat perilous position the tugboat Sterling earns out to render assistance, but she also grounded aud remained hard and fast for over three hours.
In the meantime Captain Ballons, of the Hinemoa, took measures for the safety of his steamer, and by means of the engines, sails, and anchor, worked the Hinemoa to a safe anchorage. Captain Ballons displayed very skilful seamanship in navigating the steamer off her perilous position. The Hinemoa is still at Kaipara undergoing temporary repairs, prior to continuing the trip to Wellington,
