The gale raged all along the southern coast of South Africa on Sunday night and Monday, wrecking most of the vessels in its path. Tho Oakworth, when nearly empty, was stranded at Algoa Bay, and will probably become a total loss. The crew wero saved. There wero many exciting rescues in connection with the ship Arnuda, from Cardiff; the barque luehape Rock, from Portland, and tho Hermanos, from Madagascar.

Tho captain and crew of tho Hermanos clung to a bowsprit for hours, and were finally rescued by a rocket apparatus. The captain's wife and two children were washed away. Sixteen of the crew are reported lost, or still in peril. VESSELS WITH AUSTRALIAN CARGOES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, Sept-, 3. Tho Underwriters’ Association has received advices that the following vessels, with Australian cargoes, are amongst those totally wrecked in the great gale at Algoa Bay: The barques Nautilus and Oakworth, and tho ship Coriolanus, all of which had almost completed discharging. Tiie barques Hans Wagner and Limari, whielrhad partly discharged. The barques Waimea and Hermanos, and tho ships Cavnliero, Michele, and Russia.
