CRICKET.
ORMOND CRICKET CLUB,
Tho annual general meeting of tho above Club was hold in the Public Hall, Ormond, on Friday evening last. Though the weather was wretched, there was an attendance of about a dozen players. Tho President (Mr J. A. A. Closer) prosided, and in his capacity as Hon. Secretary read tho following report:— Gentlemen,—l have much pleasuro in congratulating you upon tho past successful season. The friendly spirit which existed among tho members of tho Club and tho members of the Ormond L.T.C. have done much to make the Club popular and tho sport enjoyable. Tho absence of any disaffection at the picking of the teams was most gratifying, seeing that tho responsibility rested entirely on my shoulders. I would like to impress upon members, that those chosen as emergency mon should do their best to roll up, as that is tho surest way to eventually find a place in the team. Some members who are picked for their skill are apt to become careless, and neither roll up nor send an apology to tho secretary. Such members givo the emergency men their chance. Very often more is to be learnt by intelligently watching a game than by playing without a thorough knowledge of the game. There are some promising young colts coining forward to take the place of some who have left the district.
Too much praise cannot be given to Messrs Crawford, Barton, Raymond, H. Sharp, and Smith, for their valuable services in tho field. The thanks of the Club are due to the ladies of the L.T.0., who have so kindly assisted to satisfy the cravings of the weary warriors. Mesdames Graham, McKenzie, Ormerod, Newman, Foote, and Petcholl; Misses Newman (2), Gordon, and McClure, have all liberally supported our endeavors to entertain visiting teams. I need hardly remind you of tho delightful day we spent with the Captain and his eleven from tho ILM.S. Penguin. The thanks of tho Club are due to Mr King for a presentation of timber for seats, also to Messrs Evans amd Leggett for umpiring and otherwise showing the interest they still have in tho noble sport. A word of praise is due to Messrs E. Hutchinson and Sherrill for tho sportmanlike way in which they allowed some of our men to regularly play for the honor of the county. 1 hope an all day match will bo arranged with Waihuka for the ensuing season, and much regret the misunderstanding which occurred last season, for which probably your overworked secretary was responsible, and last, hut not least, thanks are due to Mr Noenan for the magnificent way in which he convcyod tho team to Frascrtown, thus affording a pleasant game and renewal of the friendly relations existing between the Frasertown and Ormond Clubs, and a most enjoyable trip, which will long livo in the memory of those who wore fortunato enough to have earned a place m tho oleven. Tho Cricket Association of Gisborno has not yet made any arrangements for the ensuing season. No doubt we shall hoar soon from them. I will now ask the Treasurer to read tho balance-sheet, and then we will proceed to olect officers for the ensuing soason, and roll in any mew members.
The following were tho batting and bowling averagos secured during tho past season :
The report was adopted on the motion of Mr A. Crawford, seconded by Mr H. Sharp. After discussion, it was decided to defer the election of general office-bearers until later in the season, when there would he a more representative attendance. Mr Caisar was re-elected lion, secretary and Mr A. Crawford captain. The meeting was characterised by much enthusiasm, and promises well for the success of the Club during the approaching season.
