CLAIM FOR DAMAGES.
AN EX-PRISONER’S ACTION AGAINST A DOCTOR. RED-HOT IRON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. In tho case of Brown v. Dr Tcare, tho plaintiff gavo ovidonco concerning his treatment by defendant in Wellington prison, which forms tho basis of a claim for .£2OOO damages. It is stated that the pain caused by the uso of tho electricbattery was intense, and that ho was caused to suffer frightful agony by defendant applying a rod-hot iron to his spine. Ho said that ho was removed to an unvcntilated cell from tho infirmary, and placed on a low diet, receiving littlo or no attention. 110 had asked for treatment by other medical men, but defendant bad rofused this, and declared that he would continue to uso tho iron. His health had improved since his release, but ho was still compelled to uso a stick in order to walk. Tho caso stands adjourned until to-morrow.
