A MATE UK ATHLETICS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. At a meeting oi the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night G. W. Smith’s record of 15 l usec. for the 120yds hurdles was passed and recommended to the Australasian Association for endorsement. The report on the competition for the banner was ordered to be referred to the affiliated clubs. After a long discussion it was decided to ask the clubs for an expression of opinion on the system of centre government, a motion in favor of the system having been carried by seven to six, the chairman refraining from voting. The Wellington Club was asked to give a suitable welcome to Simpson and Smith on their return to the colony by the Paparoa next Friday.
GREATER CHRISTCHURCH. At a meeting of tho Industrial Association to-night the Greater Christchurch scheme was considered, and the Association resolved to heartily support it. The Association also decided to thank Sir Joseph Ward for tho answer to tho deputation that he would as far as possible have all railway rolling stock made in the colony. TEACHERS. The Christchurch Section of tho North Canterbury branch of the Teachers’ Institute passed a motion protesting against the proposed classification of teachers by the Department, as not being in tho interests of education, and urging the Department to delay introducing the scheme until it has been considered by district institutes of tho New Zealand Education Institute. BOXING.
At a meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association it was resolved that the amateur championships be decided in Christchurch on September 25th.
