[B? TELEGRAPH. —PP.EEA ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, last night. The Agent-General reports under date London, August 23rd :—Mutton market quiet. Trade in all classes of mutton has been very slow, l'riees are barely maintained. The average prices to-day are : Canterbury mutton, 3Jd ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington Meat Export Company mutton, 3jd ; North Island mutton, 3ad. The stocks of lamb on hand are
light, and firmly held in few hands. The average prices to-day are : New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, 3d ; other thnn Canterbury, ■ 1 ]d• The beef market is firm. Fores are scarce. New Zealand fores 4}d, hind 3d. The hemp market is steady. The price of good fair Wellington grade on spot to-day was .£33, September to November shipment 1:31. The cocksfoot seed market i. 3 firm, there being no pressure to sell cocksfoot seed. It is reported that the American supply will bo short and inferior. New Zealand 171 b standard, 30s.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. have received the following cablegram, dated London, Saturday : —“ Since our last cablegram prices for hides and leather in general are unchanged ; basils not offered for sale."
