GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.

(Per Press Association.)' Napier, last night. Amongst the players at the Napier Golf Club’s annual championship meeting, which commenced on Friday last, are ; Misses Moore (Wanganui), Fitzherbert (Wellington), Messrs Gillies (Auckland), Higginson and Gore (Wellington), and Mr Spencer H. Gollan, who recently won the Calcutta Cup. The visiting contingent all showed splendid form, and some very closely contested games were played. The Ladies’ Championship was won to-day by Miss Fitzherbert by one up, after a splendid game in the semi-final with Miss Rutherford. Miss Moore (Wanganui), who should have played off the final with Miss Fitzherbert, had to withdraw, owing to being obliged to return home to morrow, thus leaving the Wellington lady the winner. In the Men’s Championship Messrs Gillies and Gollan have both won their semi-finals, Messrs Higginson and Peacock being in the running up to the last round. The final will be played off tomorrow, and opinions are equally divided as to whether the Aucklander: or Mr Gollan will prove the victor. The weateer to-day has been very bad.
