A divorco case presenting somo unusual foaturea came beforo Mr Justico Edwards to-day, when Kdward Turner petitioned for a divorce from Agnes Turner, otherwise Agnes Saunders, on the ground that she was tho wifo of Saunders whon married to petitioner. In Juno, 1893, petitioner married Agnes at Mastorton, the latter describing hersolf as Agnos Bobortson, spinster. Petitioner s mother had told him that respondent was married at Knox Church, Dunedin, in 1881, by Dr Stuart, to Joseph Saunders, but ho pooh-poohed this statement, and livod with tho woman whom ho believed to bo his wife, for six years. They bad no childron. Tho truth regarding tho relationship Of Agnes and Saunders coming to tho knowledge of petitioner, ho left her in 1899. Tho next thing ho heard was that respondent had issued an information against petitioner for maintenance of hersolf and child. Petitioner wrote to the magistrate at Wellington, denying that tho woman was bis wife and that tho child was his, but as petitioner was then in poor circumstances in Dunedin, and could not attond tho Wellington Court, an order went against him for ten shillings a week for tho wife’s support, tho child having boen dropped out of tho information.
