MAN NEARLY KILLED AT RAILWAY CROSSING,

j(Per Press Association). Masterton, last night. A serious accident occurred at tho railway crossing near Featherston this afternoon. An old settler, a foreigner, named Ermer, deaf and blind in one eye, was crossing in a trap. The trap was run into by a train. The old gentleman had his ribs broken on one side, and sustained severe fracture of the Bkull. He lies in a critical state. Tho horse was killed, and the trap smashed up.
