The demands of the Union were substantially acceded to. The hours were reduced from 48 to 45, the log to be abolished, employment of youths to be restricted, and preference given to Unionists. The Court made no alteration re hours and log. The number of youths is not restricted, and a male worker is entitled to the minimum wage at 22 years. The Court did not give preference, but inserted clauses that Unionists and nonUnionists should bo treated alike. The award is to take effect on September Ist, and continues for three years. Hosiery factories will bo included in a separate

award, to bo given hereafter. Westport, last night. The Old Diggings Company’s dredge and claim on the Buffer River has been sold by auction to Mr James McKay for ,£4OO. Tiniavu, last night. A fire occurred at Tomuka last night, when the drapery shop of Thomas Edwards, with all its contents, was completely destroyed. The origin of the fire is unknown. The premises were insured for £'soo and tho stock for £OOO in the South British office. The fire brigade with difficulty saved the adjoining buildings.
