EMPLOYEES’ COMBINATION
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. Mr G. T. Booth, President of tho Canterbury Employers’ Association, at the annual mooting this evening, spoke strongly in favor of further combination on tho part of employers, and urged cooperation on a largo scalo. 110 said that industrial efficiency would havo to bo increased, and that was tho best way of doing it. WAIMAKARIEI SCHEME.
Tho special committee which is dealing with the Bill now boforo Parliament to
enable tho City Council to use water from Waunakariri for the purpose of electric lighting and power in the city has decided to oppose the petition that tho Bill be withdrawn until expert opinion is obtained on the feasibility of the scheme. Tho Committee points out that the scheme cannot be adopted before expert opinion is obtained, and in any case the sanction of tho ratepayers has to he secured. Therefore, they asked Mr Collins, M.H.R., who is in charge of tho Bill, to endoavor to havo it pushed through. The Committee anticipates that this will bo accomplished this session. LABOR DISPUTE. Tho Arbitration Court is busy with tho timber and coalyard and sawmill employees’ case. The workers are willing to accept the recommendations of tho Board, but the employers want tho Auckland award.
