Mr Wilford gave tho House some interesting details about the new poultry export industry. Against tho expenditure of over last year, he said the Department received £1421 in fees from the various depots, and of that amount Auckland contributed £127, Christchurch £257, Dunedin £l6O, and Wellington £7OO. Of the expenditure £IOOO had been spent on new buildings at Ruakura, £SOO for a building at Momohaki, £BOO for a building at Burnham, and £3OO for a building at Milton. During the year ended 31st March, 40,000 head of poultry had been exported from the colony, but he would point out in regard to the £1421 received that the poultry exported during January and February of this year, the principal months for export, did not come in in time to be included in the return. There had- not been a huge profit, but he took it that the Government did not expect a huge profit the first year.
