THE KAITI HILL.
(To the Editor of the Times.)
Sir, —I should liko through your columns to urge upon tho Borough Council at their next meeting to consider the question of acquiring tho Kaiti Hill as a public park. I understand that there is a sum of several hundred pounds in the hands of the Contingent Cowmitto, and it would be as well if that Committee were called together, and the matter discussed. In the first case provision should, of courso, be made for rendering assistance to any local troopers who have beon injured in South Africa, although happily, as far as I can learn, thore is not likely to bo any call upon tho funds for such a purpose. I had hoped that tho Cook Memorial Committee would have moved in tho matter, but I learn that they are confining their attention and energies to the memorial itself. To my mind, the two should go together. Tho Waikanao beach has been almost lost to the public, oven one road thereto has beon blocked and can be closed at any minute. Lot tho Council now lead in an effort to acquire the hill for the bonefit of tho public, and, in doing so, I am sure they will have the support of every ratepayer. —I am, etc., Subscriber.
