The Unemployed Object.
{Per Press Association); (Telephoned from Napier.) y Westport, last night. At a meeting of unemployed, called by His Worship the Mayor to-day, strong exception was taken by several of the men to the appointment of the Sergeant of Police as labor agent of the district, and the following resolution was carried, “ That the meeting respectfully wishes to call the attention of the Minister of Labor to the fact that the labor office being attached to the Police Department completely robs it of any virtue that it was intended to posess for the advantage of those who were deserving of the benefit it can bestow ; in short, the better classes of the unemployed absolutely refuse to recognise this office whilst under police supervision, feeling, no doubt, that that they will become better acquainted with it soon enough without being driven to the police by the Government.
