The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, AUGUST 15, 1902. A MAN’S THREATS.

The smoothness of affairs in Parliamentary circles has been ruffled in a slight degree by the case of the man Moore, who awaits sentence for sending a threatening letter to the ActingPremier. It is well that such men should be dealt with shortly and sharply. A plea of guilty of writing the letters wlrile in a state of irritation is no excuse for an intelligent man writing such a letter as was written by Moore to Sir Joseph Ward. It is indeed a surprise that any individual, whatever his temperament may be, should think of singling out the Act-ing-Premier in such a way, for the latter gentleman’s chief characteristics include attentiveness to business and an obliging manner. His straightforwardness may not suit some people, but in his case it does not mean bluutness; firmness is combined with a tact and patience that few men possess, and Sir Joseph has the happy knack of being able to say no decisively but in an affable way. Therefore it comes as the greater surprise that 110 should have been made the subject of such threats. Whether or not Moore was in earnest in his threats, or merely attempting the part of a bully it is pleasing that he should have been so quickly brought to account.
