LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

(Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, last night' The Council met at 2 30. It was decided to forward a congratulatory message to the King and Quoou upon iheir Coronation.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

A resolution was passed expressing regrot at the death of Mr G. Wright, ox. member for Ashburton, and condolence with his family. Sir Joseph Ward read tlio following cable from Mr Seddon : “ I have received a Coronation medal at tho hands of His Majesty tho King. To-day I presented tho address from tho colony, tho Westland casket, Maori hou=e, and Maori address. All wero graciously accepted by His Majesty, who expressed pleasure personally at their uniquo and interesting charnctor. Ho said that they would always remind him of his loyal subjects in New Zealand.”

Sir Joseph Ward announced that tho Government had served notico for tho termination of tho contract with tho Bluo Star Line for a direct service to South Africa, in consequenco of tho agroomont not having boon signed. Tho House roso at 5.30.

Sir Joseph Waid said that ho had boon at work trying to introduce a small and effective moasuro in regard to food trusts, and ho suggested that Mr Hornsby should bo satisfied with tho progress mado in Cominittoo, and await tho Government measure.
