Further reports from country districts show that ttie south-west galo of Sunday was felt with tho same forco as it was in Gisborne, and in nearly every township considerable damago was done. The destruction chiefly consisted of tho demolition of a number of chimneys and fences, whilst sevoral stations report severe lossef in lambs.
The loss sustained by Mr Redstone amounted to closo on a hundred pounds. A boat-shod on Mr R. Harpor’s section, near the Ivuiti bridge, was blown down, was dono to many other buildings in tho same -locality. Tho latapouri Hotel was visited by a number of townspeople yoßtcrdav, and tho telephone was kept going during tho day by persons enquiring as to tho loss sustained by Mr and Mrs C. H. Burdott. At daylight yostorday a further search was mado for tho missing balcony, fowl-house, and kennel, as woll as for Mr Goodloy's valuablo sheep dog. The kennel was found in pieces on tho beach, and tho dead body of tho dog was lying eloso by. It might bo mentioned that when tho galo set in tho kennel was located in an exposed position, on tho bank noar tho beach, and thus was subjected to tho full forco of tho storm. Tho konuol was swept for somo distance nlong tho boaeh. Wo are informod by Mr Burdett that tho dog was a valuablo 0110, for whioh tho owner would not havo takon ten pounds. As a result of tho gale fully ono hundred contacts woro reported to tho Telephone Exchange, nnd Mr Sampson, Chiof Postmaster, had threo parties out unravelling tho threads.
Many of tho flags and bunting usod ill tho Coronation decorations wero twistod amongst tho wires. This saved somo of tho flags, but causod a good doal of inconvenience.
