Employers’ Conference.
A DEPUTATION.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, Saturday,
A deputation from the Employers’ Association Conference* waited on- Mr Hall-Jones to place before him some of the decisions of the Conference that has just terminated, regarding points in present and ponding legislation which it was thought required alteration. Provision as to boy labor was mentioned as ono requiring modification. It was urged that tho present provision for a 45 hours’ week led 4 to great inconvonienco. Tho deputation * suggested that where men and boys worked together the hours of each should be 48 per week. Tho payment of young pooplo \va3 another point which it was thought requirod alteration, or an increase of the 3s per week provided for would lead to those who began work at an oarly age, getting, at 20 years of ago, more than provided by the Arbitration-Court. The deputation also thought that tho law in regard to itnprisbnniGnt for debt should be' altered in the direction of making debtor? provo that they had not the means to pay. Granting preference ot (j'mployipent to unionists was regarded, as unjust, and it was held that any union should, before bringing a ease into court, be obliged to show that ho represented a inajorjty of workers to be represented.
