MORE TAXATION.' THE BURDEN IN QUEENSLAND. Brisbane, Aug. C. The Premier moved in the Assembly a resolution in favor of a fixed tax of Li on all incomes under Ll5O, sixpence in the pound on incomes from personal exertion of Liso and upwards, a shilling in the pound on similar incomes derived from property, and a shilling in the pound on money invested on the totaiisalor. The resolution was adopted after a protest by Mr Cowley. SHOCKING SCANDAL. AN OVERCROWDED TROOPSHIP. DEATHS OF TROOPERS. Melbourne, Aug. 0. The Drayton Grange has arrived, and has boon quarantined. During the run from Albany five New South Wales troopers succumbed to pneumonia.
There are ninety still in the hospital. There is great indignation aboard at the overcrowding and want of proper sanitary and medical arrangements. RAILWAY SMASH. NO ONE INJURED. Brisbane, Aug. 6. A passenger train ran into an empty sheep traiu at Betlbank. Five trucks, two carriages, and a guard’s van were smashed, but no one was injured.
