A FATAL FIRE
By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, last night. Information has been received from Clinton that a house owned by John Roy was burnt down at Wairura last night. The family were sleeping in the house, and before all could be saved two boys, sons of Mr Roy, aged six and eight years respectively, had perished in the flames. There was an insurance ofLrsO on the house and LSO on the furniture, both m the South British. OTAGO UNIVERSITY.
At a preliminary meeting to devise a scheme to place Otago University on a sound financial basis, the editor of the Daily Times announced that the subscriptions already promised amounted to Liooo, including a donation of L2OO from Mr John Sidey (father of the M.H.R.). RAILWAY EMPLOYEES. At a large meeting of railway men from Dunedin and Oamaru districts, it was resolved that Government be respectfully requested to do its best to have a Supeianuation Hill lor railway servants passed this session ; that Government be asked to subsidise a fund to enabie members t ,i either cl i vis ion of 25 years service or upwards to come upon the fund at the. age of C \ or as soon after as retirement is determined upon, ana that a graduated scale of contributions be arranged according to scale.
