LAND SALE.

Thoro was a large attendance at tho land sale held by Messrs Williams and Kettle at the Academy of Music ou Saturday morning, and there was brisk bidding for most of tho lots advertised. On account of the Wi Pore Trust Mr Kennedy first submitted 75 acre 3 of firstclass agricultural land at Makauri. Started at ,£2O por aero, tho price advanced smartly to £25, at which figure it was knocked down to Mr W. Baird. There was no demand for the Hangaroa and Ahirau sections, both lots being passed. For tho fivo Ormond sections, with buildings, there was keen competition, tho property being sold at £llO to Mr T. Byrne. Mr T. Carroll’s Model farm at Wae-renga-o-kuri, consisting of 200 acres, was passed, as also was Mr Jcx-Blake’s property. On behalf of Messrs Bousfield and Campbell Mr Kennedy submitted 493 acres at Whangara, occupation with right of purchase at 34s per acre. Tho auctioneer said the property was a fine farm, and tho purchaser would not be put to a penny expenditure. It was well worth £7 per aero. The first offer was £350, and in £SO bids tho price ran quickly to £7OO, Mr Kennedy drew two more bids of £25, and tho property was secured at £750 by Mr Nolan. Interest in the sale increased as the town sections were submitted. A quarteraero section sub-divided into four lots was first offered. Section No. 1 contained onesixteenth of an acre, 45 feet frontage to Childers Road, and 66 feet frontage to Custom-House street. Five pounds por foot was the first offer, and in 10s bids the price rose to £7 2s 6d, being knocked down to Mr C. J. Parker amidst applause. Lot 2 contained 40ft frontage to Childers Road with a depth of 66ft. .£5 was the first offer for the section, and after two more bids it was sold to Mr T, Holywood for L 5 7s 6d per foot. Section 3,40 ft x 66ft, was secured by Mr J. Roderick at L 5 ss, and the fourth section was purchased by Mr J E. Foster at the same price. A quarter-acre section at the corner of Childers Road and Lowe St.eet, in the occupation of Mr James Brown, engineer, was next offered. The section has 66ft frontage to Lowe Street and 165 ft to Childers Road. LSOO was offered, and in LSO bids the price increased to L 750, at which figure it was passed in, but we understand that it was subsequently secured by Mr VV. Miller at a little over LBOO.

Mr Kennedy is to be congratulated on the success of the sale, which quite exceeded public anticipations.
