AWFUL CALAMITY.
MINING DISASTER IN NEW SOUTH WALES.
FEARS THAT TWO HUNDRED MEN HAVE BEEN KILLED,
VOLUMES OF SMOKE ISSUING FROM MINE. SURFACE HAND KILLED AND OTHERS INJURED. LOUD REPORT HEARD SEVEN MILES AWAY. PARLIAMENT ADJOURNED OUT OF SYMPATHY.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received, July 31, 5.52 p.m. Sydney, July 31. A disastrous explosion occurred at Mount Kembla colliery. A loud report was hoard at Wollongong, seven miles away. All tho district d'oetors have gono to the mine. There are no dotails to hand,' Received 8.40 p.m. 7 p.m.—Tliore are no dotails yet to hand. It is not known whether tho mouth of tho pit collapsed, or if thero was an explosion. A telephone messago from tho pit indicates that there was an explosion, as great volumes of smoke are issuing from the mine. It is believed that about two hundred miners have beon entombed. One surface hand was killed, and several injured. Parliament has adjourned out of sympathy for the sufferers.
