CUSTOMS AND EXCISE DUTIES

DECREASE OF IMPORTS FROM AMERICA. By Telegraph—Press Association. - Wellington, last night. _ The return of Customs and Excise duties collected at the several ports of the colony for the June quarter shows that the total Customs was £477,528, against £469,934 for the same period of last year, and Excise was £22,064, against £22,608. Of the Customs duties, £164,411 was collected at Auckland, £113,813 at Wellington, £89,393 at Dunedin, and £70,917 at Christchurch. The imports during the quarter are valued at £2,130,060. against £2,382,403 j in the June quarter of 1901. Wellington heads the list with -£606.003 ; Auckland, £564,391 ; Dunedin, £368,553; and Lyttelton, £340,318.

Imports from the United Kingdom rose from £1,266,352 to £1,298,995. Imports from the United States decreased from £355,306 to £272,448.
