WAIPIRO BAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Waipiro, last night,

The Omapere arrived on Sunday morning from Auckland, and tho cargo was handled expeditiously. The new launch proved a great help in the facilitating of tho work.

Tho Acclimatisation Society formed here promises to do very useful work, and keen interest is being taken in tho subject. The report in the Times that the Gisborne Society would he importing some Virginian quail has been noted with satisfaction, and an application is to ho made for some of the birds to be sent up this way, where they ought soon to thrive. Coronation Day is to he celebrated with festivities hero, on tho Saturday. Thero are to he sports and horse-races. The programme is as follows :—i, Half-mile Handicap (for horses) ; 2, 100 Yards Handicap ; 3, “ Catch DoWct ” ; 4, 200 Yards Handicap ; 5, Station Hack Handicap (minimum weight 9st) ; 0, High Jump (for men) ; 7, Boys’ ltaco ; 8, Tilting in-tho-Ririg ; 9, Footballers’ Relay Race (half-mile) ; 10, Flying Handicap (half-mile) ; 11, Ladies’ Bracelet Race (half-mile). The festivities are also to bo carried into tho ovoning, when a social and danco will ho held in tho schoolroom, commencing at 7.30.

The football match between Tuparoa and Waipiro was played this (Wednesday) afternoon at Matuhiia station. In the first half a try was scored for Tuparoa by Tainara Wliakarara. The attempt to convert tho try into a goal failed. In the second spell Tuparoa again increased their score, a goal being kickod by M. Walker. Tho result was a victory for Tuparoa by 7 points to nil. Ici tho evening tho Waipiro team were the guosts of tho homo team (Tuparoa) at a smoko concert, and a vory enjoyable time was being spent. Tho woathor is fine, and tho roads very good for this timo of tho year.
