FARMERS ' UNION CLUB.
(To the Editor of the Times.)'
Sir, —May I draw the attention of your readers who are members of the Farmers' Union, to an advertisement in the columns of your paper, in which I ask those who have signified their intention to belong to the proposed Farmers’ Union Club, to nominate members for the committee to be elected at the first general meeting of the Club in about six weeks’ time. It is a matter for congratulation that the Club will be open to members on Saturday, August 9th, and that the Provisional Com- [ rnittce have successfully overcome the j many difficulties with which they were confronted. The thanks of the members are especially due to Messrs Bell and Birrell, who have been indefatigable in their efforts to bring matters tO a successful conclusion, and to the To Aral."branch, which originated the idea of a Farmers’ Club. I therefore feel assured that I shall voice the feeling of the mem- ■ bersin nominating Mr C. J. Parker of Te Arab as the first president of the club The services of Mr B. M. Birrell have been so invaluable to the Provisional Committee that, as I feel it would be a loss to the club not to have this energetic gentleman's services. I propose also to nominate him as the honorary secretary. It is felt that the club will bring members of the Union in touch with one another, and by friendly intercourse make them exchange views, w’hich will be for the bone* fit of the Union, and will aUo enable them to transact business with facility and convenience, It is needless to trespass upon your space to explain the many advantages of the club, for which members of the Farmers’ Union alone are eligible, as the objects have frequently been discussed through the press, but the Provisional Committee most cordially invite members j Of the Farmers’ Union to inspect the rooms in Lowe street, which they feel assured will be sufficient to induce them to signify their intention to the Provisional Committee of joining the club at once.—l am, etc..
